Dear Friends,
I am deeply grateful for the progress West Texas has made in foster care and adoption.
As a young lawyer, I advocated for numerous families failed by our state’s foster care system. These families, often grappling with poverty, faced insurmountable challenges in navigating this complex system to reunite with their children. Witnessing their struggles fueled my determination to transform this system.
In my five years with One Accord for Kids, we have made significant strides. We knew the foster system in West Texas needed to improve, so we started listening to local leaders. They voiced concerns, some that collectively we could solve and some that would require us to take a lead role in developing programs. From this, birthed our foster care and adoption recruitment efforts, collective impact workgroups, Family Help West Texas, and Permian Basin Giving Tree.
We now facilitate collective impact workgroups in the Permian Basin and Concho Valley that are focused on community driven solutions to improve child welfare and ensure a loving local home for every child in West Texas. Heart Gallery of West Texas continues to expand its reach to recruit more adoptive parents while also strengthening existing adoptions through grants we have made to four of our local partners.
Along with these exciting improvements, we were excited to announce our merger with The Attic Foster Network. This merger represents a natural evolution of our shared commitment to West Texas child welfare. By joining forces we are poised to further amplify our impact, combining our strengths to innovate and efficiently create better outcomes for those we serve. Further, we are glad to be serving alongside their enthusiastic team.
In reflecting on our impact in 2024, would please consider supporting One Accord for Kids with a year-end tax-deductible donation? Your contribution is more than just a gift; it’s a partnership in our ongoing mission. Click here to make your tax deductible donation. Creating a successful child welfare system is a community effort, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
