A vision came to life last week through the leadership of CASA of West Texas, St. Joseph’s Ministry, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). Together, they launched a new initiative to create food pantries that are easily accessible to DFPS caseworkers and CASA volunteers, ensuring that families in crisis can receive food when needed most.
What seemed like a straightforward idea proved to be a challenging journey. Hope, however, persisted. First Presbyterian Church of Midland stepped forward, offering not only space but also a spirit of partnership that made the project possible. St. Joseph’s Ministry provided the funding to stock the pantry with food and make the vision a reality.
Staff from DFPS, CASA of West Texas, One Accord for Kids, and church members helped stock the shelves, transforming an empty space into a resource ready to meet urgent needs.
This is what community looks like—people working together to support families and keep children safe. And the movement is growing. A second pantry is already being set up at the CASA of West Texas office in Big Spring, Texas.
Churches and community partners across West Texas are invited to join this effort. Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community—one food pantry at a time.
