They Need YOU – Uniting Communities for Foster Care Change in West Texas

Jan 25, 2024

Behind the success of any great movement is an even greater community.

Community is more than just a group of people living close to one another. It represents a shared identity, common goals, and a support network that transcends individual capabilities. Within community lies the ability to unite, inspire, and uplift individuals to achieve more than they could in isolation.

This is the foundation of how we see foster care changing in West Texas. We believe communities can drive positive change on a broad scale. When individuals unite under a common cause, they become a formidable force capable of addressing societal challenges. From grassroots movements to local initiatives, the collective power of a community can influence policies, raise awareness, and create lasting impact. We know that only through community will we see the foster system change.

With nearly 100 West Texas children and youth waiting to be adopted, we see it as our duty to do what we can to get these kids adopted. You might have seen our billboards and Facebook campaign promoting AdoptWestTexasKids.com. This is a landing page dedicated to helping West Texans get the adoption process started. You might have also seen one of our half dozen Heart Gallery of West Texas exhibits around town. These are portraits of kids waiting to be adopted with links to their online profile. While these are excellent ways to capture the eyes and hearts of West Texans, we need the help of our community for maximum impact.

This is where we need you. We are looking to our Midland-Odessa communities to help us find adoptive families here in the Permian Basin. Specifically, we are creating a team of individuals who will use their community connections and networking ability to place Heart Gallery exhibits where they can be seen by their community. These local teams will deepen the reach and impact of the Heart Gallery of West Texas locally so that children can find their forever homes.

If you are interested in joining the team, or want to learn more, please come to our kickoff Lunch and Learn on February 8th 11:30-1pm at Higher Grounds Coffee Shop (403 Andrews Highway, Midland, 79701). We will talk about the state of adoption in West Texas and across the State, the current efforts and outcomes of Heart Gallery of West Texas, and how you can make an impact.  To RSVP click the link or you can email Jenny at jstubbs@oneaccordtx.org.
