On February 18th, we had the privilege of participating in a Foster Care and Adoption Q&A, bringing together experts from various child welfare organizations across the Permian Basin. This event was organized by West Texas Together, a local coalition with the purpose of improving child welfare. Our panel featured representatives from CASA of West Texas, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), Addy’s Hope, High Sky Children’s Ranch, Texas Baptist Home for Children (TBHC), and Buckner.
The discussion provided valuable insight into the foster care and adoption process, addressing common questions and concerns from prospective foster and adoptive parents. Panelists walked attendees through the licensing process, explaining the steps required to become a foster or adoptive family. They also shared personal experiences and expertise, helping to dispel misconceptions and provide clarity on the needs of children in care.
One of the key takeaways from the event was the urgent need for loving, supportive families to step forward. Each organization emphasized the importance of community involvement and how individuals can make a difference in a child’s life—whether through fostering, adoption, or advocacy.
