The Heart Gallery of West Texas exists for a simple, urgent purpose: to help children waiting in foster care find safe, loving, permanent families—right here at home. Across the Permian Basin and Concho Valley, too many kids are placed far from their schools, churches, and cousins because there aren’t enough approved local families. Distance adds loss on top of loss. When we match West Texas kids with West Texas families, we protect roots, preserve relationships, and give healing a head start.
The Heart Gallery is a traveling portrait exhibit featuring children who are legally free for adoption. Volunteer photographers capture each child’s personality with dignity and joy, and their online profile invites visitors to see beyond a case number to a whole person with hopes, talents, and a future. You’ll find the gallery in churches, businesses, hospitals, libraries, and community events from Midland and Odessa to San Angelo and Big Spring—anywhere neighbors gather and care.
Why does this matter locally? Stability. When kids can stay near their school counselor, youth pastor, best friend, or hometown, the path to belonging is shorter and sturdier. Teachers know their names. Coaches cheer them on. West Texas is famous for showing up—this is our chance to do it again.
You can help move a child from a frame on the wall to a family at the table. Host the Heart Gallery of West Texas at your church or workplace. Volunteer your skills as a photographer or event helper. Sponsor printing, installation, or travel costs. Share a child’s profile with your network. Most importantly, consider whether your home could be the “yes” a child is waiting for.
