Celebrating Valentine’s Day with Your Kids

Feb 11, 2025

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to teach children about love in a way that goes beyond candy and cards. It’s a chance to share God’s love for us and show them how to express kindness, gratitude, and love to others.

A great scripture to share with your children is 1 John 4:19, “We love because He first loved us,” and discuss how we are called to love others. Talk about God’s love for us by walking through the story of Jesus’ birth, crucifixion, and resurrection. God loves us so much that He sent His son to die for all of our sins and we get to live in eternity with Him when we choose to follow Him! That’s love!! Then you can take this opportunity to talk about ways you and your family can love others sacrificially.

Craft time can be both fun and meaningful—help your children create homemade Valentine’s cards with Bible verses to give to family, friends, or neighbors. This teaches them the joy of giving. You can also set up a jar where everyone writes kind words or prayers for each other.

Acts of service are another great way to celebrate. Bake cookies for a neighbor, visit a nursing home, or make care packages for those in need. These small gestures reflect God’s love in action. Showing your children what it means to serve others is so important in loving others as Christ loves us!

End the day with a cozy family movie night or bedtime Bible story about love, reinforcing that Valentine’s Day is not just about romance, but about sharing God’s love in all relationships.

How do you plan to celebrate with your kids this year?
