We did it again!! In late June, Matt hit the road visiting our Heart Gallery of West Texas kids placed in the Houston area. As you may remember 60% of West Texas kids placed in foster care are in homes or institutions outside of our 30 county region. This puts most of our kids in the larger cities in Texas where there are the most beds.
On Thursday, June 28th, Matt met up with a set of four siblings at Cosmic Air Adventure Park in Humble. Before our day of fun we met a volunteer photographer at a local park for a quick photoshoot. At the adventure park the kids had a blast playing in the facility and had a great pizza lunch, all compliments of Cosmic Air. More than just fun, this little family got to see each other for the first time in two months. It was apparent that they had a deep love and admiration for each other and truly enjoyed spending time together. The mother and father that adopt this set of four are in for a lifetime of adventure and love. We will be posting their photos in the next couple of weeks when they make their official debut on the Heart Gallery of West Texas.
On Saturday, Matt met with another six kids, a sibling set of four and a sibling set of two at the Cockrell Butterfly Center in Houston. All of them had a great time seeing the butterflies and spending time together. Like many of our kids, the sibling set of four are not living together so this was one of their first times together in more than a month. They had a blast and we hope to share more about them as their profile goes live on the Heart Gallery in coming weeks. The sibling set of two were a set of Irish twins, Lily and Laila. They were very sweet and loved seeing the butterflies fly all around them. They told Matt that they loved the Frozen princesses. This might be because they bear a close resemblance to one of them. Check out their profile to see what we mean.
On Monday, July 1st, Matt met London at MainEvent in Stafford. They played pool, bowled, had dinner, and then hit the arcade. You might remember London from his story on CBS7 where he shot hoops with a few players from UTPB Basketball. It was clear that he still has a love and talent for basketball, because he spent most of his time at the basketball arcade games. The evening was certainly the highlight of his summer and special privilege that only One Accord could give him.
After a wonderful evening with London, Matt met up with Grayson and Graedyn for an epic day at Moody Gardens in Galveston. These two are full of energy and bring a smile to anyone they are around. Their faces lit up with awe as they walked through the iconic Rainforest Pyramid. The boys saw animals they had only seen in videos and some they had never even heard of before. In the aquarium the sharks, penguins and a variety of fish blew their minds, but they were most excited to see the giant otters and to touch the stingrays. They boys had a great time, they came away with memories that will last a lifetime.
Matt rounded out his trip taking Jacobo and Bryan to the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center. The boys immersed themselves into the exhibits and loved making crafts, mixing up some slime, and playing in the simulated city. After the discovery center they all had a quick pizza lunch, with dessert of course, and then found a playground to burn off some more energy. Jacobo and Bryan both love to play and discover new things making the perfect addition to any family.
In all One Accord visited 15 Heart Gallery of West Texas Kids. While we know they enjoy our summer adventures, we know that they would love nothing more than to become a permanent member of a family. As the stories come across the news and social media we encourage you to consider what your family could do for one of these incredible kids. All you have to do is go to their profile and make an inquiry.
